Algumas razões pelas quais os Pelicans podem qualificar-se para os Playoffs!

Os New Orleans Pelicans estão a entrar numa nova era com o começo da temporada 2019-20!

Independentemente da perda de Anthony Davis, os Pelicans estão repletos de jovens talentos e estão entre as equipas mais empolgantes desta temporada, especialmente com a presença do melhor draft de 2019, Zion Williamson.

Embora as expectativas sejam baixas para o conjunto de New Orleans este anos, ele têm realmente uma grande hipótese de se qualificarem para os Playoffs – tendo em conta que a Conferência Oeste está mais aberta que nunca.

Aqui estão algumas razões pelas quais os Pelicans irão regressar á competição na pós-temporada:

4º – Alvin Gentry é um treinador melhor que muitos julgam!

Gentry tem um registo de 145-183 nas quatro temporadas ao serviço dos Pelicans. Durante as suas primeiras três temporadas, o treinador de 64 anos fez progressos constantes (30, 34 e 48 vitórias), levando a equipa aos Playoffs em 2018.

Eles eliminaram os Portland Trail Blazers na primeira ronda antes de cair para o eventual campeão Golden State Warriors nas Semi-Finais da Conferência Oeste.

A última temporada foi uma regressão para os Pelicans apenas por causa das exigências comerciais de Anthony que limitaram o seu tempo de jogo. Sem o melhor jogador em campo durante momentos cruciais, eles ainda conseguiram vencer 33 jogos. Isso é uma prova de treino do técnico Gentry. Os Oklahoma City Thunder está em modo reconstrução e provavelmente vai abdicar dos Playoffs nesta temporada. No entanto, os Los Angeles Lakers vão certamente ocupar essa vaga. Mas, então quem irá falhar também os Playoffs?

Essa é uma boa questão e há algumas dúvidas, no entanto, este pode ser o ano que os San Antonio Spurs vão falhar os Playoffs. Os Spurs têm sido terrivelmente inconsistentes nas duas últimas temporadas, muito devido à incapacidade de colmatar a saída do MVP das Finais 2018-19, Kawhi Leonard.

Os Pelicans podem substituir a vaga deixada pelos Spurs nos Playoffs, isto claro, se a equipa comandada por Gregg Popovich vacilar. Tudo pode acontecer no Oeste, e os Pelicans estão numa progressão ascendente, enquanto os Spurs estão na direção oposta.

2º – Os Ex-Lakers irão prosperar fora de LA!

Nos últimos dois anos, as primeiras escolhas do Draft, Brandon Ingram (2016) e Lonzo Ball (2017), foram uma decepção. Mas sem a pressão de jogar em Hollywood, Ingram e Ball podem desenvolver-se a seu próprio ritmo com o anonimato de jogar pelos Pelicans.

O desenvolvimento de Ingram pode ter sido sufocado pela presença do talentoso Kyle Kuzma, que desempenha praticamente a mesma posição que ele, nas duas últimas temporadas. Sem Kuzma por perto, Ingram poderia tornar-se uma artilheiro de 20 pontos em New Orleans.

Ver Ball jogar ao lado de Jrue Holiday foi bastante refrescantes. Os dois vão certamente ser devastadores a nível defensivo. Josh Hart, o outro jovem jogador adquirido no comércio de Davis, parece mais motivado a provar aos Lakers que fizeram má escolha em trocá-lo.

1º – Zion Williamson será melhor do que muito esperam!

As expectativas para Williamson são altas, mas ninguém espera que ele leve os New Orleans aos Playoffs nesta primeira temporada. Além disso, os próprios Pelicans tentam manter as expectativas baixas para Williamson nesta temporada.

Não acredite neles!

Williamson vai ser uma força no campeonato já nesta temporada e, a julgar pelo seu primeiro jogo na pré-temporada (16 pontos e 7 ressaltos em 28 minutos), ele está apenas a aquecer. Há uma razão pela qual o Draft da NBA 2019 foi o Sorteio de Zion.

Ele está preparado para se tornar o melhor jogador que a Liga já viu desde que LeBron James foi draftado em 2003. A sua carreira na Duke University (22.6 pontos e 8.9 ressaltos) foi apenas uma amostra do que ele pode fazer no escalão profissional.

Espere que Williamson tenha todas as oportunidades para levar a equipa sob os seus ombros. Ele vai certamente dar aos Pelicans uma oportunidade para lutar pelos Playoffs já nesta temporada.
