ANÁLISE: O que esperar dos Indiana Pacers em 2018-19?

Na temporada passada, os Indiana Pacers foram dados como mortos antes da temporada começar devido á saída de Paul George. Para o seu lugar veio Victor Oladipo, Domantas Sabonis…

Oladipo aproveitou o momento, tornou-se o rosto da franquia, um All-Star e o vencedor do prêmio Kia Most Improved Player. Tudo, mesma temporada. Sabonis, tornou-se uma sólida peça rotativa e liderou a equipa no registo dos ressaltos. Indiana venceu quase 50 jogos, a maioria das projeções apontavam para metade! Foram um duro osso de roer contra os Cleveland perdendo a série na negra.

Registo 17-18: 48-34 (qualificaram-se para os Playoffs, tendo perdido no jogo 7 contra os Cleveland Cavaliers na primeira ronda).

Quem entra na equipa para esta temporada: Tyreke Evans (agente livre), Doug McDermott (agente livre), Aaron Holiday (draft), Kyle O´Quinn (agente livre).

Quem saíu esta temporada: Lance Stephenson, Al Jefferson, Glenn Robinson III.

Quando Paul George deixa Indiana e no sentido inverso vai Victor Oladipo, as risadas foram imensas e a maioria dos adeptos davam Indiana fora dos Playoffs. Mas, rápido se calaram e começaram a aplaudir Oladipo que se impôs como a estrela da franquia! Não foi por muito que não eliminaram os Cavs de LeBron James.

Uma coisa é certa, ninguém questionou a decisão de Pritchard (Presidente dos Indiana Pacers) desta vez. Este verão, mesmo com a perda de alguns jogadores chave, nomeadamente Lance, eles fizeram jogadas interessantes de forma a aliviar um pouco a carga dos jogos sobre Oladipo. Embora não haja garantias de que os recém-chegados de Indiana elevem a Conferência Este, pelo menos a lista garante as necessidades da equipa.

Evans, foi um acréscimo do prêmio, uma reviravolta estranha aconteceu nesta temporada, pois ainda à 2 anos, mal se mantinha saudável. Ele dá a Indiana a capacidade de tiro exterior e não tem problema de arriscar o último lançamento. Na temporada passada pelos Memphis Grizzlies fez média de 19.4 pontos por jogo e teve 39.9% de sucesso do tiro de 3 pontos. No entanto, não joga uma temporada completa desde 2014-15, e foi limitado a 52 jogos na temporada passada.

Se Evans se mantém saudável, ele certamente será uma opção sólida ao lado de Oladipo e Bojan Bogdanovic, tornando os Pacers um pouco menos previsíveis no final dos jogos. Talvez a única desvantagem é que Evans vem para os Indiana apenas por uma temporada. Dependendo do desempenho, pode optar por uma saída no próximo verão e ganhar mais dinheiro ou ficar por Indiana e extender o contráto, caso se sinta em casa.

Evans vem para substituir Stephenson (rumou para LA Lakers) e no geral é uma vitória para os Pacers. Não apenas por ser melhor marcador, mas os Pacers já não precisam de lidar com o caráter de Lance que custou alguns jogos na temporada passada.

Lance Stephenson ajudou os Indiana em alguns momentos, sim, mas foi demasiado inconsistente para ser um jogador regular na equipa.

Pace ajudar a esticar o jogo, os Pacers adquiriram McDermott, um puro atirador de 3 pontos. O preço foi surpreendentemente alto (três temporadas a troco de $21 milhões) sendo que ele nunca foi um dos jogadores principais nos seus quatros anos na NBA até ao momento.

Uma compra muito mais económica foi O´Quinn, que ficou em sétimo lugar na temporada passada no que toca ao registo de ressaltos (22.4) entre os jogadores do banco. Send o um ressaltador forte fisicamente e bom defensor no interior, O´Quinn adicionará profundidade aos Indiana.

 

 

Pobre Darren Collison, esteve sempre a lutar por um lugar a titular, e mesmo conseguindo, teve de continuar a lutar para mantê-lo. Na sua primeira passagem por Indiana (2010-12), eles tinham George Hill. Nessa corrente, Indiana trouxe Cory Joseph para empurrar Collison.

Talvez um dia Holiday substitua Collison, embora seja difícil de imagina que isso aconteça nesta próxima temporada. Ainda assim, ele vem de boas raízes, já que os seus irmãos mais velhos Justin ( Chicago) e Jrue ( New Orleans ) são jogadores sólidos da NBA.

Estes movimentos de verão foram projetados para fortalecer a rotação e provar que a última temporada não foi por acaso. Com LeBron fora do Este, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers e Toronto Raptors estão na linha da frente para completar o trio forte da Conferência, e se Evans mantiver a mesma média da temporada passada nos 19 pontos por jogos, os Indiana podem sonhar em garantir um quarto lugar na Conferência.

Os Pacers têm um futuro brilhante pela frente e neste momento estão numa boa corrente e têm capacidade para fazer estragos na Conferência Este. Veremos como se porta a equipa liderada por Nate McMillan numa conferência mais fraca no geral, mas muito mais competitiva que a temporada passada…
