ANÁLISE: O que esperar dos Washington Wizards em 2018-19?

John Wall esteve fora da competição durante mais de metada da temporada passada devido a uma cirurgia no joelho, e quem assumiu o protagonismo da franquia de Washington foi Bradley Beal, que, ultrapassou os limites do estrelado em algumas noites! Bem, uma coisa é certa, se Wall se mantém saudável, e Beal mantém a qualidade que apresentou na temporada passada, os Washington possuíem armas suficientes para atacar os lugares mais acima da tabela. O atacante Otto Porter Jr. foi o terceiro na NBA com 44,1% de eficácia na linha dos 3 pontos e serviu como fonte secundária de pontuação. No entanto, os Wizards, não eram tão claros em muitos jogos, no entanto a linha da frente continuou a ser fonte de resultados mistos e de frustação ao mesmo tempo. Os Wizards foram frios e desplicentes no final da temporada, perderam nove dos seus últimos doze jogos e caíram para o oitova lugar (último de acesso aos Playoffs).

De certa forma, os Wizards continuam no “relógio”, eles devem aproveitar a oportunidade para ganhar títulos enquanto Wall (27 anos) e Beal (25) então no seu “prime“. No entanto, eles raramente estão saudáveis ao mesmo tempo, e o que aconteceu com os Raptors, pode perfeitamente acontecer aos Magos.

Mas atenção! Howard está a caminho do Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame e quem pensar o contrário, está tolo! O homem levou os Orlando Magic para as finais da NBA em 2009! Por um período de 7 anos, ele foi um dos melhores jogadores de impacto do jogo. No entanto, Howard nunca desenvolveu o jogo ofensivo (jogadas de uma-para-um ou de médio alcance) e como tal, ele é um dinossauro num tempo de mudança e na era do basquetebol moderno. A nível defensivo, embora mantenha a forma física, já não é o demónio que foi nos tempos de Orlando.

Existe também a questão da personalidade, que pode ser exagerada até certo ponto, mas era um problema desde que deixou os Magic. Howard parece estar numa missão de agradar a todos e no processo tem tendência a irritar.

Finalmente, ele muitas vezes fica irritado quadno não vê a bola no poste baixo. Com Wall e Beal fazendo mais de 30 tiros por noite ele não terá muita bola. (Algo que Gortat expressava no passado).

Durante o Verão, Wall disse que faria o que pudesse para deixar Howard confortável com o seu jogo… até porque, qual é a alternativa? Desde que Beal se juntou a Wall em 2012-13, eles venceram 3 séries de Playoffs juntos – no entanto, nunca chegaram ás finais da Conferência Este. Agora, visto que LeBron se mudou para a Conferência Oeste, se á oportunidade, é agora.

Os Wizards escolheram não negociar Oubre Jr. na offseason e fizeram bem. Ele é um jogador em desenvolvimento numa posição bastante preenchida, sobretudo quando recrutaram Brown.

Brown, de 19 anos, traz visão de jogo e é bastante confortável com a bola nas mãos, mas será difícil de vê-lo jogar, pois tem vários jogadores á frente no plantel. Trocaram Gortat por Rivers, pois a necessidade de ter um atirador de 3 pontos era maior (37,8% na última temporada).

Na maior parte dos casos, os Wizards fizeram pequenas manobras neste verão, e nehuma delas deverá mudar drásticamente a aparência do clube. Deve ser o suficiente para mantê-los nos Playoffs, visto que LeBron não está…. Podem, eventualmente pensar nas Finais, mas isso apenas será uma possíbilidade se a equipa se manter saudável.
