ANÁLISE: O que esperar dos Los Angeles Clippers em 2018-19?

Os LA Clippers nos últimos anos tem vindo em queda livre… E o último abanão aconteceu a meio da temporada passada quando Blake Griffin deixou a franquia e rumou a Detroit terminando assim a era “LOB City”. Surpreendentemente, a saída de Paul e Griffin (em apenas 7 meses) não fez desmonorar completamente a equipa e isso deveu-se ao técnico Doc Rivers, que recebeu um voto de confiança da nova direção.

Registo 2017-18: (42-40, não se qualificaram para os Playoffs).

Quem entra na equipa para esta temporada: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Draft), Jerome Robinson (Draft), Marcin Gortat (Trade), Luc Mbah a Moute (Agente livre), Mike Scott (Agente livre).

Quem saíu esta temporada: DeAndre Jordan, Austin Rivers.

Lou Williams, vencedor do Kia Sixth Man Award, teve uma brilhante temporada ao liderar a equipa dos Clippers no que toca á pontuação, tendo feito média de 22.6 pontos e 5.4 assistências por jogo. Ainda assim, não foi suficiente para garantir um lugar no Playoffs (pela primeira vez desde 2010-11).

DeAndre Jordan, títulado como “Mr.Clipper” – é visto como um ícone de honra e de coragem. Foi o jogador que mais partidas disputou na história da franquia (mudou-se este verão para Dallas após 10 temporadas ao serviço da equipa de LA), passando por altos e baixos durante a sua estadia em LA.

Foi o último dos “Big Three” a sair, mesmo tendo ainda mais um ano de contrato, optou por acionar a agência livre e assinar pelos Dallas Mavericks, até porque os Clippers não lhe ofereceram extensão de contrato… Basicamente convidaram o homem a sair.

Durante seis temporadas, os Clippers nunca chegaram á final da Conferência Oeste sob o comando do técnico Doc Rivers – um reflexo de sorte com as lesões e as falhas nas rotações com jogadores-chave. Também não ajudou o facto de os Golden State Warriors imporem a sua dinastia, visto que a última equipa a eliminar os GSW nos Playoffs da Conferência Oeste foram os Clippers. No geral, os “Lob City” ficaram aquém do esperado.

Os Clippers, optaram por não pagar Chris Paul á dois verões atrás, preferindo Griffin, mas depois deixam-no ir quando o desesperado Detroit Piston se chega á frente para adquirir Blake. Recusaram Jordan que optou por ir para Dallas a receber o mesmo que em LA, $26 milhões.

Extender o contrato a Jordan, iria colocar os Clippers numa situação com muito pouca flexibilidade do orçamento salarial, mas também, de recordar que Jordan tem vindo a cair de produtividade e é dos último que não joga a mais de 2 metros dos aro. Esse tipo de jogador já está em fase de extinção.

Claramente, Michael Winger, Lawrence Frank e o consultor Jerry West acreditam que é a hora de mudar os Clippers. Rivers permanece, pois é preciso dar valor ao homem (continua a ser dos melhores da liga) tendo em conta o plantel que teve á sua disposição na temporada passada e mesmo assim ganhou 42 jogos.

Os Clippers começam de novo com Gilgeous-Alexander. Ele é um excelente atirado, surpreendeu com excelentes exbições na Liga de Verão da NBA, e acreditam que pode fazer melhor estreia que Collin Sexton (Cleveland Cavaliers) ou Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks). É incerto quanto tempo ele vai jogar nesta temporada, visto que Pat Beverley e Milos Teodosic estão de regresso, mas isso também é algo que depende dele. Oportunidades não lhe vai faltar e é preciso ter em conta que tanto Beverley com Teodosic estão no último ano de contrato.

Outra escolha no Draft foi Robinson que fez grandes progessos nos 3 anos que esteve no Boston College (fez máximo carreira de 46 pontos num jogo na temporada passada) e pode ter efeito imediato nos Clippers.

Os Clippers vão ter poderio financeiro para atacar os tão atrativos agente livres no verão de 2019, sendo que na lista da frente está Kawhi Leonard e Jimmy Butler.

Los Angeles, sem dúvida que pertence a LeBron James e a Lakers nesta temporada, mas os Clippers estão em fase de reconstrução e pode vir aí uma nova identidade para a franquia. Doc, tem sem dúvida muito trabalho pela frente e cada vez mais a Conferência Oeste está mais competitiva, resta é saber, se a confiança depositada no técnico trará resultados.
